The series "Northern Plain," primarily located in Beijing, Shanghai and Japan with a focus on Tokyo, significantly explores the diptych as a medium for dynamic communication, revealing the structural composition of each image. The themes are diverse, as reflected by some of the titles in this series.
For instance, inspired by the structure of insect compound eyes and architectural motifs in building facades, "Ommatidia" investigates the concept of multifaceted perception. Each image represents a fragment of a broader visual perspective, akin to the multiple lenses of an insect's eye, offering a range of viewpoints. In "Generations," I examine the influence and legacy that each generation imparts to the next. Capturing the atmospheric changes at the end of summer, "Love Song" serves as a lyrical tribute to the theme of love and the sentiments associated with this time of year. In the photographs titled "Interior Skies," I focus on the relationship between an individual's internal landscape and the external environment, which influence the psychological dimensions that shape our perceptions. In "Spring Snow," a title inspired by Yukio Mishima, I aim to highlight the transience and ephemeral nature of life. In "Imago," I draw a parallel between a person in old age and the final stage of an insect's metamorphosis, using it as a metaphor for growth, transformation, and the attainment of maturity, both in a literal and a figurative sense. Lastly, set against the backdrop of Jingshan Park during the Moon Festival, "Moonshields" depicts the military under the ethereal light of the moon.
